K-1 vs K-3
Greetings everyone. I hope this posting is in the correct section...
Anyway here goes:
I am returning to Chisinau for the 2nd time next month to see my beloved Tatiana. We are both in agreement that we're getting married and she'll be coming here to live with me in the USA. My question is, are we better off getting married in Moldova and filing for a k-3 visa or having her come here under a k-1 fiancee visa?
Tatiana and I are open do getting married either in the USA or in Moldova, we just want to get her here the quickest way possible. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me.
Alan

k-1 versus K-3
Fiancée visa takes about 3 to 4 months and is the fast way to bring your bride home. K3 can take about 1 year or more . Before 911 you could get married in the women’s country then apply directly to the embassy (spousal visa), this would them only take about three weeks. This is what I did. After 911 most embassies stop excepting spousal visa applications and required you to go through the INS(K-1) there are still a few that will except a spousal visa but only a few.
Most experts in the foreign bride industry say you should never ever do a K-3 or a spousal visa. The three-month visa gives you a test trail to see how you really get along.
This can save you a lot of problems in the future. Obviously if after a few months you decide things are not right you can simply don’t get married. But if you do the K-3 and she gets here and she does not like it or you just is not working out now you have to go through a divorce and all that crap.
Benefits of K-3, you do not have to do a change of status and she will be free to travel
Negative of K-3 takes much much longer, can take 1 to 2 years.
Benefits of K-1 much faster. Get a chance to spend three months together to make sure you are compatible. This has saved many men from making a mistake.
